So, much has been said about the quality of my release of Koukaku no Regios and I’m not sure if I should continue it or not.
Taka‘s release has been around for a while and has proven to be far better than mine, so I’m not sure if there is any point for me to keep doing Regios. I’m posting a few screenshots to compare video quality (DVD version has been scaled to 720p for comparison purposes):
(Taka’s 720p HDTV release)
(Original R1 DVD, uncompressed)
(My 10-bit encoding)
As you can (probably) see, my encode is true to its DVD source. I think I managed to keep a good quality overall and there aren’t many artifacts, but the picture itself doesn’t seem as sharp as Taka’s HDTV release. Following denpa’s advice (thanks!) I tried to experiment with some filters to make it sharper, but I still thought it was lacking somehow. Also, unlike FMP, Regios uses Vob Subs from the DVD, so I may not have given it my best.
Hence the poll above. It’s up to you guys to decide whether I should continue with the series. Thank you for your feedback!
Full Metal Panic 04 is almost done. I’m currently encoding a movie that will be released soon!
I’m sorry for all the delay! Nothing will be dropped and I will keep working hard on my projects.
This is a really nice episode and I hope you like it! Thanks for all your comments and feedback. I really appreciate it. Please tell me if you find any errors and I will correct them in the final batch.
Full Metal Panic 01 – “The Guy I Kind Like is a Sergeant”
So here’s my new project, now we get to see Kana-chan in 10-bit! I had to do this now because I absolutely love this series.
It’s my first encode from a Blu-ray source and it proved to be surprisingly easier than encoding from a DVD, since I don’t need to go through the hassle of cutting and syncing audio and video over and over. As usual, this is 10-bit H.264 encoding. 720p only as it’s upscale (it looks REALLY good on my TV, though). Japanese audio is FLAC and I’ve also included a lossy encode of the English dub. I apologize to dub fans, but I can’t justify 300 MB for an English lossless track. If there’s a demand for it, I will release it separately.
As for the subs, I extracted them from the BDMV, did some editing and corrected a few errors. Unlike Koukaku no Regios, this uses styled ASS subs. There’s only so much I can do on Aegisub, so don’t expect fancy typesetting or karaoke effects. Regardless, I tried my best and think it turned out pretty well.
Enough of talking, please download the episode and keep giving me your feedback so I can make my releases better! Don’t forget to join #Hitori-Anime@irc.rizon.net.
I know some may be wondering how my release of Regios compares to the HDTV release by Ayako or Taka, and sukanime mentioned how he thought the TV version was much better than mine. While I do respect his opinion, I thought I would compare both versions with a few screenshots. So just see for yourself which one you like better and go for it! 😉
I intentionally resized my release to 720p for comparing purposes, but of course the encode is actually 480p, given the DVD Source. IMHO the DVD isn’t flawless, as well as my encode isn’t, but I do believe it’s an upgrade over the TV release. Please feel free to disagree with me, though!
Oh, and I’m done with episode 13 for a long time now, don’t even know why I haven’t released it yet!
